Discounted ticketing

To increase access to bus services, we will continue to fund the following targeted discounts over the next 3 years.

  • Free off peak and half fare peak discount for eligible elderly residents

  • Free travel at all time for eligible disabled residents

  • Half fare discount for those who are unemployed.

We are also committed to exploring ways to fund improved fare offering for young person’s travel.

Easy joined-up ticketing

Many travellers find the array of different fares and tickets difficult to understand, particularly when using more than one operator.

The partnership is therefore committing to the following from during 2022/23.

1.      Standardising ticket definitions across operators for ticket boundaries, age, times etc.

2.      Widening the range of all-operator ‘flexi’ tickets to include a ‘3 days in a week’ ticket for less regular travellers and a ‘group’ fare.

Full details of our Flexi range can be found on our Multi-Operator Ticketing Page.

3.      Limiting the fare add-on for using more than one operator to 10% or less.

4.      Introducing London style ‘best fare’ capping. This was launched on the 28th March 2022, see Tap on Tap off for more details.

Parking costs

In order to make bus travel better value, we will also looking at measures that increase the cost of car travel over the bus – particularly to the City Centre and congested employment areas.

We will commit to ensuring that central area all-day parking on-street or in Council multi-storey will always be above the cost of a bus or park and ride fare.
