FAQ’s - Multi-Operator Capping

What is Tap on Tap off?

Tap on Tap off is a new way to pay for your bus fare in Leicester. Like the London network payment system, you can travel with your contactless payment method (Visa, Visa electron or Mastercard credit or debit card, Google Pay or Apple Pay), and your fare will be capped at the best value fare based on your travel.

How does Tap on Tap off work?

Simply ‘tap on’ your payment method on the ticket machine when you board the bus and ‘tap off’ on the tap off reader when you alight the bus. You will then be charged the single fare for each journey you make in the day up to a maximum of the Day ticket cap price (£5.60) or the week ticket cap price (£21.50).

What area is Tap on Tap off valid in?

Tap on Tap off is valid in the Leicester Flexi area and is only available on adult fares.

What happens if I forget to Tap off?

If you forget to ‘tap off’ you will be charged the maximum single fare on the whole route.

For any additional journeys, your fare will still be capped at the maximum day and week price caps.

Do I need to use the same payment card?

Yes - your payment history is linked to your payment method. Therefore, if you use multiple contactless methods in day or week period, you will not benefit from the capped prices, as the system will count each contactless method as a separate customer.

Does this work for child fares?

The maximum fare caps are only available on adult fares.

Do I need to Tap off if I’m a concessionary pass holder?

There is no need for concessionary pass holders to “tap off”. Please continue to use your pass as normal.

How do I check my Tap on Tap off history?

Why was my card declined?

Your card will be declined if you have insufficient funds in your account. When this happens, your card will automatically be blocked for further use on our services until there are sufficient funds available again.

In the meantime, you will need to use a different payment method or card until your original card is unblocked.

My card was declined when I tried to use it, however, why did some money still came out of my account?

This is because you owe us money from a previously declined transaction.

How long does it take for my card to be unblocked?

It can take up to 48 hours for a card to be unblocked once the funds have been recovered from any previous transactions.

I’ve checked my payment history and I still need help, who do I contact?
