Single bus fares in Leicester will be capped at £2 from 1st January 2023 to 31st October 2023 - now extended to 31st December 2024! This is part of the Government’s Help for Households campaign to help passengers save money by capping the cost of bus fares in England. This means that passengers will pay a maximum of £2 on single fares when travelling.

The following bus companies are participating in this scheme in Leicester:

Where does the £2 fare cap apply?

The £2 fare cap applies to the single fares on all services of the bus operators listed above.

How do I pay for my fare?

You can pay for your single fare on the day you are travelling using tap on tap off or by buying a ticket from the driver using contactless or cash payment.

What if my fare is currently lower than £2?

You will still be charged the lower fare.

I normally buy a day, week or monthly ticket, will this be capped?

The fare cap only applies to single fares and the price of all other tickets remain unchanged. You may find that it’s cheaper to buy the £2 single fare directly from the driver during this period.

Will my half fare concessionary ticket be affected?

The maximum fare you will pay is £2, so if you are currently paying less than £2 for your half fare ticket, your fare will remain unchanged. The half fare concessions is not applied on top of the £2 fare cap.
